For now, it is the AC power settings that I am trying to modify, though eventually will want to modify the DC settings as well. Display and sleep both seem to have different readings from the "Never" for both that Power Options Fascinating to my untutored eye many settings not available in the GUI as I can tell, but there just the same. So, how do I separate the "turn off display after." function from the tablet's sleep function? Did you ever find a solution? Samsung tech support claims it is a Windows 8 issue.

In addition, using powercfg.exe to make changes also results in the "display off" and "sleep" times changing in lock step. The reason for providing two separate time-outs is to allow the system to stay turned on and fully running, but save power by turning off the display. When I run Power troubleshooter to optimize power consumption, it of course changes my "display off" to a few minutes, but "sleep" changes to the same value at the same time, so it's not just my personal approach to making changes. Traditional sleep (S3) and Modern Standby systems implement both a display idle time-out and a sleep idle time-out. With many users not recognizing that "display off" means "sleep"? Is this a problem only in some installations of Windows 8, or is it universal, Power Options and changing the respective display and sleep timeouts, with minimal recognition that changing one will change the other whether you want it to or not. I have seen many suggestions for going into I am setting up a Samsung XE500T1C-A02 tablet with Windows 8 to do unattended data logging (taking advantage of the lower power used by the processor in the tablet), and it shows the same problem.
